イチローって、本当にすごいよな。あそこまでストイックに自分を追い込める人もすごいよ。それで結果も出しちゃうからね。それとは別にこっちもすごい。カラオケを発明した日本人である井上大祐氏が2004年のイグノーベル賞平和賞を授賞。この人、time magazineの"The Most Influential Asians of the Century"の20人にも選ばれているんだね。昭和天皇、黒澤明に並んでだよ。すごいね。ちなみにバウリンガルも過去イグノーベル賞平和賞を授賞している。

Daisuke Inoue, the inventor of karaoke, was awarded the 2004 Ig Nobel Peace Prize last night, "for inventing karaoke, thereby providing an entirely new way for people to learn to tolerate each other." The Ig Nobel Prizes are awarded annually for achievements that "celebrate the unusual" and "honor the imaginative," according to its organizers, The Annals of Improbable Research. We hear Inoue accept the prize at last night's ceremony.

僕が20代にやりたいスポーツ。ロッククライミングとカヤックとサーフィン。どういうわけか、僕の周りにはサーフィンをやっている人が多い。昔からやっているっていう友人もいるが、社会人になってからはじめたっていう人も結構多い。だから僕もそろそろサーフィンを始めようと思う。でも僕はとにかく朝が苦手だ。サーファーの朝は早すぎて、きっと僕は溺れるだろうなと思う。だからWave Pillowそんな自分にとって大発明品だな。

こういうのって、ラジオの空いている帯域を使って、データを送り込むことで実現できそうだ。見えるラジオなんて、殆ど使われていないのだから、空いている帯域を、例えばWave Pillow含めて、Ambient Devices（Calm Computing系）、MSN DIRECT（A.K.A. SPOT）系のプロダクトに応用することができれば、世の中もっと面白いことになる。もちろんWiFiとかでもやろうと思えば出来るけど。でもネットワークにつなげるっていうことになると、色々と操作がややこしいから、普通の人はできないだろうな。少なくとも僕は設定できない。だから何もしないで、スイッチいれるだけで出来るっていう世界にしないとね。

こういうプロダクト、どんどん作っちゃいたいなあ。どっかに自由に使える帯域ないかな。うちの会社にはなさそうだな。ラジオ局に人にはそういう発想がないのか?　TFM MEETS AMBIENT DEVICESみたいな。プロダクトはタカラ（±0）とかが作ってくれそう。これ系の研究って、MITメディアラボで再三研究されてるけど、プロダクトとして世に出てこないのは、周波数政策の方に問題がありそうだな。

bill evansからjobimまでの距離。円の大きさや、円と円の間隔は何を意味するか明確に理解していないが、おそらく一緒に組んでプレイしたことがあるとか、楽曲の数とかを換算したコンテクストマップかと。そこからAmazonに導いているので、アフィリエートとかも直ぐにできる。個人の楽曲購入のきっかけには、友達からのレコメンド（SNSによるレコメンド）･権威からのレコメンド（iTMS Celebrity Playlistとか）なんかはもうすでにあるけど、アーティスト自体が保持する関係性から、新しいアーティストへ導いてあげるという仕組みも確かにあるね。

popular scienceによるthe 2004 popsci design competition "technological CARE packages for the 21st century."がテーマ。テクノロジーとデザインによってbasic human needsを満たすためのpackageがどのように世に出てくるのか。

treemaps

Marcos Weskamp (aka marumushi)が作った、newsmap。Google Newsに出ている記事の関連記事が多ければ多いほど、表示される面積が大きくなるというもの。関連する記事が多いということは、それだけ関心度が高い記事ということがいえる。ヘッドラインからだけでは知ることができないニュースのValueを、視覚的に表示する。これもcreative commons同様、04年に新しくできたars electronica2004 net vision部門で受賞している。Human-Computer Interaction Lab / University of Marylandが研究開発しているTreemaps for space-constrained visualization of hierarchiesのアルゴリズムを使っているが、同じような仕組みを使ったsmartmoneyっていうのもある。HCI関連のことって面白いなあ。この辺、ちょっと勉強してみたい気分満載。

Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap's objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe. Newsmap does not pretend to replace the googlenews aggregator. It's objective is to simply demonstrate visually the relationships between data and the unseen patterns in news media. It is not thought to display an unbiased view of the news, on the contrary it is thought to ironically accentuate the bias of it.

非常に行儀が悪い話で、いつも親に怒られたりしたが、僕は歯を磨きながら歩き回る習性がある。いやはや朝という時間にゆとりを持てる人は偉大だ。大抵の人の朝は1日でもっとも忙しい時間帯かもしれない。時間をどれだけ効率的に使うかということが、朝の時間帯におけるもっとも重要な関心事項だ。「歩きながら歯を研く」という行為は、シングルタスク状態に対する「もったいない感」を何とかして埋め合わせたいという無意識の行動から来ているんじゃないか。1995年にPhilipsによってコンセプトとして提示されたmirror tvがあれば、行儀よく洗面所で歯を磨くことができるかもしれないな。これって2003年に本当にLaunchされたみたいだけどすごいね。でもこんなもの見ながら歯を磨くくらい忙しない朝が嫌なんだったら、いつもより最低でも5分早く起きれば済む話だけどね。でも朝の5分間の寝床のまどろみは、とっても重要なんだよな。

First targeted to the hotel business, the TV can provide a range of functions beyond TV programming, such as bill payment, pay-per-view movies, or as a desktop application, providing a large display for presentations or surfing the web.

コンテンツビジネスは、すなわちコンテクストビジネスに他ならない。コンテクストの流通がうまくいかないと、数多存在するonline music storeの中で、そこを選ぶ理由がなくなってしまう。コンテンツはコンテクストがあって初めて意味をなすという事が明確になってきている。この1年でitunes music storeは70 million songsを売った。700,000曲の品揃え。そして今回の新しいitunesも相当いい。特にiMixによるplaylistのpublishingが面白い。センスある人によってmixedされた曲を、そのまま自分のplaylistとして追加したくなるね。このplaylistこそが、itunesやipodで繋がる個人が作り出すcontextに他ならない。こうした導線をちゃんと作っているところが極めて重要である。walmartやnapsterはこの辺がまだ甘いのか、成功しているという話は聞かない。新しいversionからmovie trailerやmusic videoも見る事ができるようになった。今後はquicktimeの普及も視野に、videoのdistributionも始めるんだろう。こういうのをケータイとsyncできたら楽しいはず。定額化したケータイは、今後はコンテクスト製造装置として、そしてコンテンツ決済手段として、その役割を明確にしていくんだろう。

NASAが開発したジェルによって、蟻の巣を三次元で観察することができる飼育ツール。蟻の巣に爆竹を入れて、違う穴から煙が出る事の不思議さを、今の子供は味わったりすることがあるのだろうか。考えてみればとても残酷なことだが、でもそういうことから生物について興味をもったりするものだ。そう、僕は小学生のとき、古生物学者になりたかったんだ。恐竜が好きだったんだよね。
